The Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites® (Vet-VIPPS®) program accredited online pharmacies that dispense prescription drugs and devices for companion and non-food producing animals. Pharmacies displaying the Vet-VIPPS Seal assured customers that they were purchasing drugs and devices from an online pharmacy that was properly licensed and complying with state and federal laws and regulations.
The internet has changed considerably since the Vet-VIPPS Program was launched in 2009. We recognize that criminals can easily duplicate verification logos and trick unsuspecting consumers into believing that they are using a legitimate pharmacy and receiving authentic prescription products. For this reason, NABP has incorporated the Vet-VIPPS Program into its .Pharmacy Verified Websites Program to better meet the safety and security challenges facing today’s online consumers. The .pharmacy program makes it easier for consumers to identify legitimate online pharmacies. It also offers a streamlined process for companies seeking approval from NABP for their websites.
The .Pharmacy Verified Websites Program – Satisfying Search Engine Advertising Requirements
The .pharmacy domain is like “.com” or “.net,” but only pharmacy and pharmacy-related websites that have been verified by NABP are allowed to use it. With .pharmacy, the “seal of quality” is built into the web address. Major search engines have taken notice of the program’s powerful simplicity – Google, Yahoo!, and Bing now require a .pharmacy domain to advertise on their search engines. A website with the .pharmacy domain will also be considered a legitimate pharmacy merchant by Visa for purchases associated with the site.
Vetting for .pharmacy applicants is a two-step process that requires those seeking approval to prove that they are licensed, operating safely, and in accordance with program standards. Once NABP has granted a company approval to register its website using the .pharmacy domain, the Association will continue to regularly monitor their site.
