Following a successful launch of the Uniform MPJE™ (UMPJE™) for early adopter jurisdictions in March, registration for the UMPJE has now expanded to five additional jurisdictions. Currently, there are 11 states that now accept the UMPJE, and several more are expected to transition to the new exam over the next year.

Registration for the UMPJE in these additional states will be available starting on May 4, 2026, with testing beginning on June 1, 2026. Once a candidate’s exam eligibility has been granted, they may schedule their testing appointment with Pearson. Appointments will be available as early as June 1, allowing candidates to select a date and time that best fits their schedules.

“The practice of pharmacy requires a deep understanding of the law,” says Steven W. Schierholt, Esq, executive director of the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. “The UMPJE ensures pharmacists have a foundational knowledge of the laws and rules governing the profession. This helps protect the patient from harm and the pharmacist’s professional license from future discipline.”

The UMPJE leverages the commonality of state laws and is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge of concepts and general principles of state law that are applicable across most jurisdictions. This exam serves as a key step toward streamlining pharmacist licensure in participating jurisdictions. “As the practice continues to evolve, the need for licensure portability has increased,” says Bradley S. Hamilton, BScPharm, RPh, 2025-2026 NABP President. “Through its collaborative efforts with boards of pharmacy and knowledgeable volunteers, NABP has delivered the UMPJE to meet this growing demand to streamline licensure for boards and candidates, while maintaining the shared mission to protect the public health.” Like all National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) examinations, the UMPJE is held to high standards of integrity and will undergo continuous monitoring to ensure fairness, consistency, and validity across participating jurisdictions. NABP encourages candidates to explore the NABP website and the Candidate Application Bulletin for additional details, and to visit their board of pharmacy website for jurisdiction-specific requirements.

As additional jurisdictions adopt the UMPJE, NABP will continue to provide updates. Candidates, colleges of pharmacy, and board of pharmacy members are encouraged to regularly visit the NABP website for the most current information.
