The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) has launched the Pre-UMPJE™, a new practice exam designed to help recent pharmacy school graduates, licensure transfer candidates, and foreign pharmacy candidates prepare for the uniform version of the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® (MPJE®). Working with its member boards of pharmacy, NABP has developed the Uniform MPJE™ (UMPJE™), an examination that will assess candidates’ knowledge of the concepts and general principles of state law that are universal across jurisdictions. The UMPJE aims to provide streamlined pathways to license portability, while ensuring candidates’ competency in state and federal law.
The new UMPJE will be available for administration in participating early adopter jurisdictions in April 2026. Additional jurisdictions are expected to adopt the new examination with the general launch in June 2026. The state-specific version of the MPJE will remain available for use by boards of pharmacy that prefer to use it for their jurisdiction’s jurisprudence examination.
The Pre-UMPJE has been launched ahead of the high-stakes exam to support licensure candidates in UMPJE early adopter jurisdictions, giving them access to the essential practice tool immediately. The Pre-UMPJE will also remain available as a study tool for students in other adopter states. The Pre-UMPJE can be purchased in the Exam Services section of NABP e-Profile®. The practice exam features 40 questions covering topics detailed on the UMPJE Content Outline, offering candidates an opportunity to become familiar with the exam format, question style, and content areas that will be assessed on the exam. Like the existing Pre-MPJE®, a score report is available for download immediately after completing the practice exam.
NABP also offers bulk voucher purchasing options for schools and colleges of pharmacy interested in providing the Pre-UMPJE to their students. This option allows institutions to support exam readiness while offering students a structured, cost-effective way to prepare for the UMPJE.
The launch of the Pre-UMPJE reflects NABP’s ongoing commitment to protect public health by supporting pharmacists and regulators with trusted tools, programs, and services that align with evolving licensure requirements. Visit the Examinations section of the NABP website to learn more about the Pre-UMPJE.
