How long is DMEPOS accreditation valid, and how often are surveys performed?
CMS requires DMEPOS accreditation is valid for 1 year if your accreditation and or reaccreditation was issued after January 1, 2026. A DMEPOS supplier’s annual resurvey and reaccreditation cycle will not begin until the expiration of the supplier’s current reaccreditation 3-year cycle (if issued prior to the final rule effective date of January 1, 2026).
Our staff performs ongoing compliance monitoring during the accreditation cycle, which may involve an unannounced on-site survey. Complaints from beneficiaries, regulatory agencies, or CMS, as well as changes in critical operations or business structure (eg, ownership change), could also prompt an unannounced on-site survey.
