Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination Programs
Early Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) Program
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) is collaborating with its member boards to expand access to NABP competency examinations. Recommendations made by various NABP task force groups and recommendations put forth at our Annual Meeting have led the way for innovative pathways to licensure.
The Early MPJE Program was initiated as a pilot in 2024, in collaboration with the North Dakota and Wisconsin Boards of Pharmacy, as well as the schools and colleges of pharmacy in those jurisdictions. The program is designed to offer students who have completed the didactic portion of the curriculum at an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy to take one attempt of the MPJE in their schools’ jurisdiction before degree conferral. MPJE exam results for students who pass will still qualify them for licensure by examination.
NABP will expand the offering of the Early MPJE Program to all member boards that may be interested in participating, starting in July 2026.
Uniform MPJE
Working with the boards of pharmacy, we are developing a new version of the MPJE. The uniform version of the MPJE will be an additional tool that boards of pharmacy can use to assess licensure candidates’ knowledge of pharmacy law.
The uniform MPJE will assess knowledge of concepts and general principles of state law that are common across all jurisdictions. Candidates who pass the uniform MPJE would meet the law examination requirement in all states that recognize it and would be eligible for licensure in any participating state without taking another law exam so long as all other licensing requirements are met.
When this new exam option becomes available, boards will have the option to begin using the uniform version or continue to use the current state-specific version of the MPJE. The uniform MPJE is currently set to launch in June of 2026. NABP will also offer participating jurisdictions the option of allowing students to take one attempt of the uniform MPJE before degree conferral.
Thank you for your support in ensuring that competency in state and federal law remains a key component of safe pharmacy practice.
Electronic Licensure Transfer Program Official Application Validity
The NABP Electronic Licensure Transfer Program (eLTP) Official Application is valid for one year from the “Sent to Board” date, which is the date that the Official Application is completed. On August 29, 2025, NABP updated the e-Profile Connect portal to allow board of pharmacy staff and applicants access to the eLTP Official Application pdf for only one year.
