The first Healthy Domains Initiative summit, hosted by The Domain Name Association, took place this month in Seattle, WA, and provided a forum for discussion about efforts to establish Internet naming system best practices, mitigate online abuse, and define measures for self-regulation. Representatives from registries, registrars, law enforcement agencies, civil society, child protection experts, illegal pharmacy authorities, and content providers attended the summit. NABP staff presented on a panel entitled “Managing Real World Online Abuse” addressing, among other issues, the dangers of illegal Internet drug outlets and the .pharmacy domain’s role in protecting consumers online. NABP staff included information on the .Pharmacy Top-Level Domain Program, which is a means for consumers around the globe to be sure the medications they buy online are safe.
