Lenora Newsome, PD, Elected to Serve as Member of Executive Committee at NABP 114th Annual Meeting

Lenora Newsome, PD, was elected to serve a three-year member term, representing District 6, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 114^th Annual Meeting, May 5-8, 2018, in Denver, CO.

Dr Newsome is a member of the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy, and currently serves as chairperson of the Informal Review Committee. She previously served as president, vice president, and secretary of the Board. Dr Newsome has been practicing pharmacy in rural communities for almost 40 years. While working as a pharmacy manager at Brookshire’s Grocery in El Dorado, AR, she helped True Quality Pharmacies, Inc, open their first pharmacy in the state. Currently, Dr Newsome is the pharmacy manager at Walgreens in Camden, AR.

As a member of NABP, Dr Newsome has served on the Task Force on Regulation of Pharmacist Care Services and the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation. In 2016, the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy received NABP’s Fred T. Mahaffey Award for its contributions to the regulation of the practice of pharmacy and efforts to combat prescription drug abuse. Specifically, the Board partnered with consumer groups and law enforcement agencies to develop a multifaceted campaign urging the use of take-back receptacles around the state.

In addition, Dr Newsome is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Arkansas Pharmacists Association, National Pharmacy Association of Arkansas, and Arkansas Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association. She also previously served as a board member for the South Arkansas Regional Health Center. In 2015, Dr Newsome was honored with the Percy Malone Award for Public Service by the Arkansas Pharmacists Association. Additionally, Dr Newsome is involved in her community and currently serves as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of El Dorado, AR.

Dr Newsome completed her pre-pharmacy coursework at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and earned her bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy in Little Rock.
