James T. DeVita, RPh, was reelected to serve a second three-year member term, representing District 1, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 109th Annual Meeting, May 18-21, 2013, in St Louis, MO.

Mr DeVita is a member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy and is currently  serving his fourth term as president of the Board. In addition, he is the director of quality assurance and patient safety at CVS Pharmacy in Woonsocket, RI. Mr DeVita began his career in 1985 as a staff pharmacist at CVS and moved up the ladder to pharmacy manager, pharmacy supervisor, regional healthcare manager, and manager of regulatory compliance prior to assuming his current role.

An active member of NABP and the Massachusetts Board, Mr DeVita has served as Executive Committee liaison to the NABP Task Force on Pharmacy Practice Technology Systems. He has also served as a member of the Task Force to Review Accreditation Standards for Community Pharmacy and the Task Force on Continuous Quality Improvement, Peer Review, and Inspecting for Patient Safety. Mr DeVita served for two years on the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws. Mr DeVita has delivered numerous continuing education presentations for the Massachusetts Board on topics including quality assurance, corresponding responsibility, electronic prescribing, technician registration, and medication error prevention.

Mr DeVita has also served on several pharmacy associations and pharmacy advisory committees that addressed patient safety issues. He was a member of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ Patient Safety Advisory Committee in 2008 and 2009, and he served two terms, one as a member, and one as chair, of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance’s Patient Safety Cluster Group. Mr DeVita was also a member of Surescripts’ E-prescribing Quality Committee from 2008 to 2011. He is a member of the Massachusetts Chain Pharmacy Council, the Boston Druggists Association, and the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association.

Mr DeVita earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy, and a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences.
