The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) has awarded Peter H. Vlasses, PharmD, DSc (Hon), FCCP, executive director of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) with an Esteemed Collaborator Award during the Final Business Session of the NABP 115th Annual Meeting, held May 18, 2019, in Minneapolis, MN.

The Esteemed Collaborator Award is reserved for those whose collaboration with NABP has been exceptionally outstanding and impactful. Dr Vlasses is being honored with this award in recognition of a career exemplifying a shared commitment to the vision statement of NABP: Innovating and collaborating today for a safer public health tomorrow.

After 20 years as executive director of ACPE, Dr Vlasses will retire on June 30, 2019, or soon thereafter, based on organization transition needs. During his tenure with ACPE, Dr Vlasses has overseen the professional degree program in pharmacy amid a changing industry. He has strengthened continuing pharmacy education and development for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and championed interprofessional collaboration in education and accreditation across the continuum of education and practice. He also led the establishment of the ACPE International Services Program.

Prior to his work with ACPE, Dr Vlasses served on the full-time faculties of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and Jefferson Medical College and the clinical faculties of the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy and the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Throughout his career, Dr Vlasses has been a leader in innovative interprofessional education, practice, and research initiatives. Dr Vlasses is a founding member, past president, and fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. He was elected to serve as chair and then treasurer of the board of directors of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors.

Dr Vlasses earned his bachelor of science and doctor of pharmacy degrees from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
