Gary Dewhirst, RPh, DPh, was re-elected to serve a three-year member term, representing District 5, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 112th Annual Meeting, May 14-17, 2016, in San Diego, CA.

Mr Dewhirst has been a member of the North Dakota State Board of Pharmacy since 1999 and has served as the Board’s president. He began his career as a pharmacist at Hettinger Drug, LLC, which he founded in 1979. His pharmacy was recognized as an Independent Superstar Retail Pharmacy by Drug Topics in 1989. From 2001 to 2014, Mr Dewhirst was a pharmacy manager at Thrifty White Drug.

As a member of NABP, Mr Dewhirst has made many contributions to the NABP District 5 meetings, including serving on the Resolutions Committee. Mr Dewhirst is currently serving as the Executive Committee liaison to the Advisory Committee on Examinations. In addition, Mr Dewhirst served as Executive Committee liaison for the Task Force on Medication Synchronization in 2014. Mr Dewhirst is also an active member of the North Dakota Pharmacists Association.

Further, Mr Dewhirst is active in health and education-related organizations. He is a member of the Pharmacy National Advisory Board for the College of Health Professions at North Dakota State University and of the Advisory Committee for Dickinson State University Department of Nursing. He has also served as a member of the West River Health Services Board of Directors since 1999. Active in community organizations, Mr Dewhirst received the Wyeth-Ayerst Bowl of Hygeia Award for outstanding community service in 1995. He was also recognized with the Al Doerr Service Award for community service in North Dakota in 1997.

Mr Dewhirst earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from North Dakota State University and received an honorary doctor of pharmacy license from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. He also holds certifications in pain management, immunization, and medication therapy management.
