RESOLUTION NO: 119-4-23
TITLE: Expanding Pharmacy Technician Seats on State Boards of Pharmacy
ACTION: PASS

WHEREAS, in 2007, the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy was the first to add a pharmacy technician member to serve on the Board; and

WHEREAS, since 2007, Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Washington have added a pharmacy technician member to serve on those boards of pharmacy; and

WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated by these states that pharmacy technician board of pharmacy members have served an essential role; and

WHEREAS, pharmacy technicians offer a unique perspective that is beneficial to the collective board of pharmacy and there are over 450,000 pharmacy technicians in the United States that require representation; and

WHEREAS, many states require diversity among board of pharmacy members so as to represent different pharmacy practice settings; however, not every state mandates, per statute or rule, a pharmacy technician member;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP review the impact of the addition of a pharmacy technician serving on every state board of pharmacy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that NABP support and encourage state boards of pharmacy to work toward adding pharmacy technician representation on every board of pharmacy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that NABP assist state boards of pharmacy to add a pharmacy technician board member position to every board of pharmacy.
