Edward G. McGinley, MBA, RPh, DPh, immediate past president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®), assumed the office of chairperson of the Association’s 2016-2017 Executive Committee during the Final Business Session of the NABP 112th Annual Meeting, held May 14-17, 2016, in San Diego, CA. Mr McGinley served one-year terms as the Association’s president, president-elect, and treasurer, and three years as an Executive Committee member representing District 2.

During his presidency, Mr McGinley continued NABP’s efforts to fight prescription drug abuse. Specifically, Mr McGinley encouraged pharmacists to take the pledge to educate their patients and communities about how to prevent misuse and abuse of prescription drugs and raised awareness about such efforts among pharmacy stakeholders at numerous professional meetings in 2016. Further, Mr McGinley continued support of existing NABP programs and services, such as the .Pharmacy Top-Level Domain (TLD) Program. Under Mr McGinley’s leadership, the Association continued to develop relationships with international pharmacy practice regulators to support the process of evaluating .pharmacy applications from countries other than the United States and furthered efforts to raise public awareness about rogue drug outlet dangers and the .Pharmacy TLD. For his service, NABP bestowed its President’s Award upon Mr McGinley during the Annual Awards Dinner at the 112th Annual Meeting.

Mr McGinley is a member of the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy and has served as either president or vice president of the Board for 12 of the 16 years he has been a member. As chairperson of the Board Rules and Regulations Committee, he facilitated the development of several new regulations and standards and also facilitated the adoption of a new pharmacy practice act. Mr McGinley is currently a partner in Pharmacy Management Consultants, LLC. Prior to this, Mr McGinley was the vice president of pharmacy at Chain Drug Consortium, LLC. He was also employed by a community pharmacy corporation, both as a practicing pharmacist in the retail environment and in information technology and executive management at the corporate level, for over 35 years.

An active member of NABP, Mr McGinley has served as Executive Committee liaison on the .Pharmacy Executive Board and for both advisory committees, the Regulator Advisory Committee and the Registrant/Supporter Advisory Committee, during his term as president. In addition, Mr McGinley has served on several task forces and committees. Most recently, he served as the NABP Executive Committee liaison to the Task Force on the Control and Accountability of Prescription Medications and the Task Force on Drug Return and Reuse Programs. Mr McGinley has also served as chairperson of the NABP Committee on Constitution and Bylaws and as a member of the Task Force on Prescription Monitoring Program Standards.

Mr McGinley has also been active in many pharmacy associations and pharmacy education initiatives. He is New Jersey’s 2015 recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award. Mr McGinley is a member of the New Jersey Council of Chain Drug Stores (NJCCDS) and was awarded the Pharmacist of the Year Award by NJCCDS in 2002. He is a member of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association.

Mr McGinley earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Temple University College of Pharmacy, earned a master of business administration from Temple University Fox School of Business, and received an honorary doctor of pharmacy license from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. He was also a fellow at The Wharton School and Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, University of Pennsylvania.
