Men’s health risks are often exploited by producers of counterfeit drugs as depicted in an infographic developed by the Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM). PSM distributed the infographic in recognition of World Anti-Counterfeiting Day and Men’s Health Week, and also reminds consumers of recent counterfeit drug incidents including FDA’s warning in April 2012 to doctors in 15 states that they may have purchased counterfeit cancer drugs, and the FDA’s discovery in May 2012 that counterfeit Adderall® was being sold over the Internet. In a news post about the infographic, PSM indicates that counterfeit versions of medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, obesity, bacterial infection, and viral infection, among other types of fake drugs, are sold via the Internet to unsuspecting patients. PSM encourages consumers who choose to buy medications online to use an Internet pharmacy accredited by the NABP VIPPS®(Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice SitesCM) program.
