Best practice guidelines and the results of a working group study about how to make prescription information more accessible to those who are visually impaired are available on the website of the US Access Board. The guidelines, “Best Practices for Making Prescription Drug Container Label Information Accessible to Persons Who are Blind or Visually-Impaired or Who A0re Elderly,” released in July 2013, promote access to prescription drug container label information in all formats, including audible, braille, and large print labels. The working group was formed as a requirement of the FDA Safety and Innovation Act signed into law by President Obama on July 9, 2012,and was composed of 18 members “with representation from national organizations advocating for individuals who are blind, visually-impaired, and older adults, as well as industry groups representing retail, mail order, and independent community pharmacies.”
