The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) issued an alert about the emergence of cychlorphine (N-propionitrile chlorphine) in the illicit drug supply. Cychlorphine is a synthetic opioid with a potency up to 10 times greater than fentanyl. According to ONDCP, cychlorphine was detected in 106 reports in 10 states in 2025; the opioid has been associated with 55 deaths between 2025 and 2026.

Health care providers, law enforcement, and consumers are urged to monitor alerts about the prevalence of cychlorphine in the illicit drug supply, administer additional doses of naloxone, and call 911 for suspected overdoses.
