Guiding Principles for State Policy on Pharmacy Personnel-Administered Vaccines
APhA, in collaboration with many national pharmacy associations, including NABP, ASHP, NCPA, and NACDS (among others), created the attached document entitled “Guiding Principles for State Policy on Pharmacy Personnel-Administered Vaccines.”
This resource is primarily designed to support state policymakers and legislative staff as they consider how to craft or revise legislation or regulations to ensure continuity of vaccine access from pharmacy personnel.
Get Your Board of Pharmacy on AIHP’s Map of History
As America prepares for its 250th anniversary, the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy (AIHP) is curating a project to pinpoint Virtual Historical Markers of Pharmacy & Pharmaceuticals Across North America. The organization’s historical markers map features more than 1,600 markers and continues to add more.
AIHP wants your board of pharmacy to be “on the map!” They are seeking your assistance in pinpointing the stories and sites of the founding of America’s state boards of pharmacy. Each board of pharmacy will be included, but they need your help to tell the historically accurate story of your founding.
Please have one of the history buffs on your team fill out the nomination form to be included. When you review the nomination form, you will find that question #5 says, “Rationale. Explain why this event/location deserves to be selected . . . .” John D. Gräbenstein, AIHP past president and project director, instructs that boards of pharmacy should simply enter “Boards rock . . . .”.
If preferred, your board can use the attached Word document to submit its nomination instead of the Google Form. All necessary details are provided in the Word document.
Gräbenstein also provided sample text to help you start drafting the description of your board’s history.
Authorized by the [Act of 18xx], the first meeting of the [initial name of board] was held on [Month DD, YYYY], in [city]. The members included [##] pharmacists and [describe any other members]. The duties/responsibilities of the board initially included [quote if succinct]. The first meeting was held in [building], with [name] serving as the presiding officer [or elected president]. The first executive officer was [name]. [Tell a succinct story of major crises or opportunities the board dealt with]. The board was renamed [second name] in [YYYY].
