AI and Health Informatics – What Regulators Need to Know

Models for using artificial intelligence, or AI, in health care settings have been around for some time, and the application of such models is rapidly evolving, including in the area of health informatics. Without regulatory oversight, pitfalls with health informatics can place the public at risk. While AI and machine learning can play an integral role in a pharmacy’s patient record-keeping system or a hospital’s electronic medical records system, patient protections are needed to ensure that Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act protections are in place and data are used ethically to improve patient care. Attendees will learn from an AI expert about some issues that regulators need to be aware of and how to inspect AI tools to protect the public from potential harm.

How to Access the Home Study Webinar and Earn CPE
The home study webinar is eligible for Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education-accredited continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit. More details regarding the presentation, CPE activity credits, and browser requirements can be found in the CPE Activity Information Guide.
Follow the steps below to access the home study webinar and claim CPE credit:
- Log in to your NABP e-Profile and select the Continuing Education Activities tile to purchase and obtain the access code and instructions.
- Log in to NABP’s CPE Submission Site and select the “Home Study CPE” tab.
- If you do not have a log in for Learner Community, you will need to create an account.
- Enter the access code provided in your confirmation email and click “Redeem Code.”
- Enter only one code at a time.
- View the recording, complete the activity in its entirety, including watching the full video, and pass the post-test. Once completed, the Credit section will unlock.
- Select the appropriate credit (pharmacy or pharmacy technician), enter your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth, and click the “claim” button to earn credit.
Claims must be submitted within 60 days from the date you opened the activity.
Presenter
Greg Myers is a leader in Deloitte’s Healthcare Data and Artificial Intelligence practice with extensive experience working with health care organizations to deliver insights through AI solutions to create meaningful impact for patients and employees. Prior to Deloitte, Myers worked for 20 years at Walgreens as a regional director, running more than 100 locations and nine of their specialty pharmacies. By background, Myers is a pharmacist. He earned his bachelor of pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University and a master of business administration degree from the University of Florida.
