NABP’s task forces and committees offer board of pharmacy members and staff the chance to shape our programs and services.
One of our newest committees will ensure that our member boards of pharmacy have the regulatory tools they need to protect their constituents’ health. The Model Act Review Committee will evaluate the Model State Pharmacy Act and Model Rules of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (Model Act) for relevance and accuracy. The Model Act provides the boards with model language that may be used when developing state laws or board rules.
Committee members will be assigned a section of the Model Act to review remotely over a four-week period, checking the following:
- Dates
- Footnotes
- References to federal law and regulations and standard setting organizations, such as United States Pharmacopeial Convention and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
- Overall language to shift to a standard of care and remove outdated prescriptive provisions
Recommendations will be compiled and presented to the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation, which will in turn present to the Executive Committee.
The new eight-person committee plans to have its first meeting during the third quarter of 2021. It will be appointed to meet and conduct its Model Act review every five years.
To be considered for the committee, you should be a board of pharmacy executive officer or member. Also, we’re looking for experts who have a deep understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, and guidance. To apply, fill out the online volunteer form by June 4.
