NABP now accredits pharmacies that provide home infusion therapy services for Medicare patients.
NABP’s Home Infusion Therapy Pharmacy Accreditation meets a new requirement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Starting January 2021, pharmacies billing CMS for the administration of home infusion therapy services in a patient’s home must hold an accreditation from a CMS-approved organization to be eligible to bill home infusion therapy services to Medicare Part B.
Participating in NABP’s Home Infusion Therapy Pharmacy Accreditation displays your pharmacy’s commitment to ensuring Medicare beneficiaries receive high-quality patient care for home infusion therapy services. During the accreditation process, NABP will evaluate your pharmacy’s compliance to a comprehensive set of practice standards, confirming operational regulatory and licensure requirements, and reviewing the necessary clinical requirements to ensure consistent, safe, quality patient care that meets or exceeds NABP Home Infusion Therapy Pharmacy Accreditation and CMS Standards for Home Infusion Therapy Services, including:
- practice management
- patient care services
- product safety
- procurement and inventory management
- quality improvement
- sterile compounding practices (where applicable)
- professional services
This accreditation is ideal for pharmacies currently coordinating home infusion therapy services and getting reimbursed or those who want to start billing and need the framework to begin. You may apply for NABP’s Home Infusion Therapy Pharmacy Accreditation as a stand-alone program or combine it with any other NABP accreditation program, including DMEPOS Pharmacy Accreditation, for one reduced price and streamlined survey process.
NABP is one of eight organizations that the United States Department of Health and Human Services designated eligible to apply for deemed status as an Accrediting Organization of home infusion therapy suppliers.
