The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to name James R. Weiss as IT and applications database director. Weiss brings with him more than 20 years of Association experience in management and consulting.
As IT and applications database director, Weiss will develop, implement, and monitor the strategic plan, goals, and objectives for the department within the guidelines of NABP’s communication and review systems. Weiss also will establish quality and outcome guidelines, milestones, and deadlines for the IT and applications database department’s program-related deliverables, as well as overseeing and participating in the design and operations of departmental computer systems.
Weiss is also an adjunct instructor in the College of Management and Business at National-Louis University, where he teaches such courses as Principles of Management and Supervision, Communication in Organizations, and Assessment of Managerial Proficiency.
Before joining NABP, Weiss spent 13 years as the director of information systems and information technology for the Society of Actuaries in Schaumburg, IL. In this position Weiss directed the planning, budgets, information management, computer systems, analysis, and development of business systems, including finance, education, continuing education, and communications. During his tenure with the Society of Actuaries, some of his achievements included the creation of a Web presence (within two years the site was registering 125,000 hits per month, which increased to more than 1,000,000 hits per month); the implementation of an online directory; the enhancement of online research capabilities (within two years, 50 years of literature was made publicly available so members could do research online); and the initiation of distance learning, where courses were produced with industry-standard tools and a custom-designed campus was designed to deliver education via the Internet.
Other positions include manager of information systems, where Weiss oversaw the operations of the developing computer and technical functions of the Society of Actuaries and working with the Board to enhance advancing technology operations. Weiss was also an analyst/programmer for Computer Assistants, Ltd, in Palatine, IL, where he served as an account representative and business analyst, offering technical services in the areas of business problem analysis and application design to major nonprofit organizations.
Weiss holds a Masters of Science in Business Management, Organization Development, from National-Louis University.
