NABP Presents at DEA Meeting on Prescription Drug Disposal Regulations

Stakeholders, including NABP, presented at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) public meeting, January 19-20, 2011, to discuss the development of regulations to implement the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010. NABP President William T. Winsley, MS, RPh, shared recommendations of the NABP Task Force on Medication Collection Programs, details of the NABP resolution on Over-prescribing and Excessive Use of Controlled Substances and Other Prescription Medications (Resolution No. 105-2-09), and relevant background information. Other members of the general public, including ultimate users, pharmacies, law enforcement, reverse distributors, and other third parties were represented and expressed their views of the most safe and effective method of disposal of controlled substances while following the Controlled Substances Act.
